The RIU Free Wedding Collection is the entry tier of RIU's five-level Wedding Collections system. Unlike a generic "complimentary ceremony" that just reserves a beach spot, the Free Collection is a complete ceremony package — coordinator, setup, music, florals, minister, dinner reservation, cake, and honeymoon-night room decoration — that becomes available at no additional package cost when your group meets the property's room night threshold.

"Free" means the package cost is $0. It does not mean the entire wedding is free. You still pay for accommodations (the room nights that trigger the package), any add-ons you choose, mandatory Minister/Judge services, administrative charges, and applicable taxes. What's free is the bundled ceremony package itself — which at competing chains would typically cost $1,149–$2,099.

Room nights = number of guest rooms × number of nights each room is booked.

  • Symbolic ceremonies only. The Free Collection covers symbolic (non-legal) ceremonies. Legal civil ceremonies require the Civil Collection add-on, which includes the additional documentation, legal filing, and Judge services at additional cost. Most couples legally marry at home and hold a symbolic ceremony at RIU.
  • No Sundays or national holidays. RIU does not perform weddings or events on Sundays or national holidays at any property. Saturday is the most popular day — book well in advance, especially in peak season (December–April).
  • Arrival requirements are strictly enforced. For symbolic ceremonies, the couple must arrive at least 2 full business days before the ceremony date. For legal ceremonies, 3 full business days. Arrival day, weekends, and national holidays do not count as business days. A Wednesday wedding requires arriving by Monday at the latest.
  • The 80% rule. The couple and at least 80% of their total wedding guest count must stay at the same RIU property. Up to 20% of guests may stay elsewhere, but those guests must purchase a Day Pass plus ceremony and dinner costs to attend. Plan room block communications to guests accordingly.
  • No service exchanges — no refunds for unused inclusions. Package inclusions cannot be swapped for other services. If you don't use the spa discount, the room decoration, or the dinner reservation, those elements are forfeited — not convertible to credit or cash.
  • Bad weather = venue change, not cancellation. In case of bad weather, the wedding is relocated to a backup venue on property. The ceremony cannot be cancelled due to weather — confirmed weddings proceed regardless.
  • Cancellation within 30 days = $250 fee. Confirmed weddings cancelled within one month of the ceremony date (or upon arrival to the hotel) are charged a $250 USD cancellation fee.
  • Valid for USA and Canada markets only. The Free Collection is specifically available to couples booking through USA and Canada market travel agents. International market eligibility varies.
